This is the new text I put into the begineers guide to address this
problem:

After you make any changes to the config tree, you need to
compile it. Storing it in a compiled form makes accessing it
quicker and easier. Do this:

        % ~/cricket/compile

No. If you are not me, that won't work for you. You don't need to be
making Cricket distributions. I'll take care of that for you and put
them on the website.
