Actually I think it's when the Round Robin Database is created that the
AVERAGE function for the longer term data is defined (check man rrdtool and
man rrdcreate). It's the "collector" utility that creates the RRDs. It
seems to get the info through the ConfigTree::Cache package which suggests
it may be a config option.

Though... On looking through grapher.cgi, it does have AVERAGE defined for
array @defs around line 1273 (Rev 0.67). You'll really need to ask Jeff
Allen where the AVERAGE function for the longer term data is defined.

I've grepped my config tree and it does look like it might be a config
option. There are a bunch of "rra" entries in the Defaults file at the top
of my tree which set up various averages.
