Jeff,

I too also tried to follow the beginners guide and ran into the same
trouble. However, when I execute:

[dspisak@andromeda dspisak]$ cd cricket
[dspisak@andromeda cricket]$ ~/cricket/compile
[18-Jun-1999 12:37:19 ] Starting compile: Cricket version 0.67 ( Wed Jun 9
22:40:32 PDT 1999 )
[18-Jun-1999 12:37:19 ] Processed 1 nodes (in 0 files) in 0 seconds.

And then:

[dspisak@andromeda cricket]$ ~/cricket/collector /routers
[18-Jun-1999 12:37:44 ] Starting collector: Cricket version 0.67 ( Wed Jun 9
22:40:32 PDT 1999 )
[18-Jun-1999 12:37:44*] Failed to open compiled config tree from
/home/dspisak/cricket-config/config.db: No such file or directory
Exiting due to unrecoverble error.

This is on a Redhat 5.2 box with a *good* version of Perl 5.00405 (not the
5.00404 that had problems with MRTG). I followed all the instructions as
best as I could. The only part that I may have mucked up was that I
installed both perl-shared and perl-piped. Is this wrong? I looked for
config.db and found it nowhere on the whole system. Is complie giving a
false positive here or something? ANy input is appriciated as I want to see
what I can do with Cricket+RRD so I can chuck MRTG (its a pain to maintain a
config when you got 500+ targets)
