How about just using longitude and latitude in the
sytem.sysLocation.0 field?

Then program the cricket server to compare that to
an atlas (like in xearth), and use a highly modified Xearth
to draw the proper gifs.

Who wants to port xearth into the cricket image generation
stuff?
